Success at Lilith Fair!

Here comes a story from one of our dedicated volunteers, Christine, as she tabled at the Boston area Lilith Fair:


Last Friday, I volunteered at Lilith Fair, helping to collect well over 600 signatures for a petition that calls on President Obama to create a plan to fight global poverty. Not only did I have the privilege of speaking with over 100 people about Oxfam America’s work, I listened to the music of such extraordinary musicians as Cat Power, Tegan and Sara, and Missy Higgins. It was fun to meet other Oxfam volunteers and it felt great to give the gift of time to Oxfam. Since joining the Boston Oxfam Action Corps, I’ve worked with other volunteers, aged 17 to 67, from the U.S., China, Zimbabwe and Norway. It’s satisfying to be involved with a group of individuals that are so diverse, yet so like-minded in their commitment to social justice.


600 signatures! We give a huge round of applause to Christine and her fellow volunteers that day for helping to gain support from concert-goers to fight global poverty.

Welcome to the blog for Boston's Oxfam Action Corps!
We are all excited to kick off a summer of action for climate change.

What is Action Corps? We're a group of concerned and committed citizens working to promote international adaptation for climate change. We will be hosting events, screening films, tabling at concerts, meeting with national and local government officials and talking to the people (such as yourself). Want to volunteer? Why are we advocating for international adaptation? Because climate change affects those in the impoverished developing nations the most. Adaptation funding allows local communities to work with their own tools to prepare themselves for the realities of climate change. These projects have included planting mangroves in Vietnam to prevent coastal erosion, and house platform raising in Bangladesh to stop flooding from affecting homes.
